Aim for an achievement of a lifetime by taking part in the 2008 Edinburgh Marathon and Hairy Haggis Relay and help raise money and awareness of Erskine.  Starting at Princes Street and finishing 26.2 miles later in Musselburgh, Edinburgh’s largest running event will be take place on Sunday 25th May 2008.  The newly designed route, following most of the 1986 commonwealth games marathon route, is flatter and faster than previous years and is perfect for top athletes, first time runners and anyone looking for a personal best time.

It is anticipated that 9,000 people will take run either as part of a team in the Hairy Haggis Relay or as individual runner for the full marathon. This is your chance to be part of this fantastic event, increase your fitness level and support Erskine all in one.

Runner

Running a marathon or taking part in the relay takes great dedication and training and we will be pleased to support you in it. In addition to training information we offer access to a runners supporter forum, pre-marathon pasta party and support at the finish line. Your training might be helped by knowing that every penny you raise for Erskine will go towards helping ex-Service men and women of all ages throughout Scotland that we provide care to. Why not come and visit one of our homes and see for yourself how we can put your sponsorship to good use?

HAIRY HAGGIS RELAY - EDINBURGH MARATHON

SUNDAY 25TH MAY 2008

Runner

In a moment of what now must have been sheer madness some months ago, four  employees of T C Young Solicitors, namely Ruth, Alison, Ramiza and Kirsty volunteered to form the team now known as Speedy Gonzales with a view to completing the Hairy Haggis Team Relay at the Edinburgh Marathon on 25 May 2008. Obviously there had to be some kind of incentive for putting themselves through such agony.....and that incentive is raising money for Erskine, a fantastic cause.

The girls would welcome your sponsorship and support and you can give this by visiting their Just Giving site  http://www.justgiving.com/speedygonzales2008,

Good Luck Ladies!

GREAT SCOTTISH WALK 2008

25TH MAY - 3RD AUGUST 2008

Enjoy the spectacular views of some of Scotland’s top cities in the biggest walking events in Scotland.  Last year the Great Scottish Walk in Edinburgh raised over £1m for charities and you can help Erskine by raising sponsorship and walking in an event of your choice.
Great Scottish Walk

Over 10,000 people take part in the 6 mile, 12 mile or Golden Mile walk in Edinburgh or Glasgow. The atmosphere is always charged with energy and packed full of entertainment including dancers, bands, jugglers and mascots. Whether you take part on your own, with family or as part of a team you will receive an Erskine t-shirt and a photograph of you at the Erskine stand before the event. More importantly you know that all the money you raise will go towards providing first class Erskine care of ex-Service men and women of all ages throughout Scotland.

The Great Wee Walks take place all over Scotland throughout the year. These popular walks are family orientated and children through to grandparents are encouraged to take part in the 2 mile walks. Each child receives a certificate and a medal and there are many activities and entertainments to ensure a really enjoyable family day out.

If you are unable to walk in the event then perhaps you would be interested in helping out or marshalling? We would like to encourage our supporters to cheer on Erskine walkers and take photographs along the route.

Since it was founded in 1916 as an independent charity to care for the wounded returning from the First World War, Erskine has provided specialist permanent and respite nursing care for over 75,000 ex-Service men and women. Each year, we care for more than 1200 men and women of all ages from the Army, The Royal Navy and The Royal Air Force at homes in Glasgow, Edinburgh and via the Bursary Care Scheme at private nursing homes throughout Scotland, including Inverness and Aberdeen. This enables individuals to receive a high standard of care, akin to Erskine Care, whilst remaining close to their family and friends. Due to the ever-increasing numbers in need of our special care, we have expanded our services by constructing a new 40-bed dementia unit at Bishopton, building a new 46-bed home at Anniesland in Glasgow and extending our Edinburgh Home to accommodate 88 residents.

If you would like to support us by taking part in what promises to be a great day out, please complete the attached entry form and return it to me at the address below.

If you would like more information please contact either Scott Falconer, Manager at Nairn Dunbar Golf Club (e-mail: manager@nairndunbar.com www.nairndunbar.com ) or myself.  I look forward to seeing you there.  Catherine Cowie, Area Co-ordinator North E: catherine.cowie@erskine.org.uk
