Every Gift in Every Will Does Difference
Imagine the difference you can make in the future for the young men and women who serve our country today. Would you consider a gift that costs you nothing at present but that helps us be there when they need us? Many young men and women who serve our country today will need Erskine Care in the future and we can do this with your help.
Please consider leaving a Gift to Erskine in your Will.
We understand the importance of family being first, but including a gift in your will is the most valuable way to help Erskine secure the best care for our ex-service men and women in the future. Legacies allow us to change and improve the lives of all the people we care for by providing specialist nursing care, physiotherapy, speech therapy and various social activities.
A Gift that Makes a Difference.
The late Miss Shelia Mair of Peterhead bequeathed a very generous share of the residue of her Estate to Erskine in Memory of her late father, James (Jim) Mair.
Shelia was proud of her father who had a successful business in Portessie. When the Great War broke out in 1914 he closed down his business and joined the Royal Engineers and was sent to Aberdeen Barracks where he met his future wife Elizabeth (Betty).
Jim was sent to France where he served his country well until his left arm and leg were blown off in action. Jim never spoke of his experiences and his injuries meant he was never without pain. This took its toll on Jim and his family. He was eventually referred to Erskine Hospital for further treatment which was of great benefit to him. He came home with renewed gratitude and being amongst fellow ex-service men meant he could unlock and talk about his awful experiences on the battlefield. This helped Jim’s mental recovery enormously and had a knock on effect for his family.
Shelia herself was bright, a gifted mimic and artist who went on to become the Principal Teacher of Art at Peterhead Academy. She was very grateful to Erskine because of the huge difference made to the quality of her father’s life and the happiness of his family. That was never taken for granted, nor forgotten. By deciding to include a gift in her will Shelia has enabled us to fund a new wing in the extension of our Edinburgh Home named “Mair House” in their memory.
A legacy of £25 allowed us to purchase adapted cutlery for our residents so that eating was made easier and a £10,000 bequest allowed us to train two palliative care nurses so that we can care for seriously ill residents in their own home at Erskine.
Another gift of £1,000 from a lady in Glasgow came with a special request in her Will for a plaque in memory of her and her late husband. We were pleased to honour her wishes and this is now located on a bench in the garden area of the Erskine Glasgow Home.
Legacies have helped Erskine care for 80,000 ex-servicemen and women in the last 93 years so just imagine the difference you could make in the next 93 years. We know that future years will be very demanding of our services, so please, remember Erskine in your Will.
Legacies make up an important part of our income and you can be sure that every gift small or large will make a real difference to the lives of the people we take privilege in caring for.
Our support for them will never stop with your support it never will.
It’s easy to leave a gift to Erskine. Just decide how much or what you would like to give, visit your solicitor and give them our details such as (name) Erskine, (address) Bishopton, Renfrewshire PA7 5PU and our Charity number SCO06609.
