Mrs McPetrie's legacy

The late Mrs McPetrie served in the ATS Royal Signals and trained at Dreghorn Barracks before being sent to Holland and then to Germany during World War II and the photograph shown is of her in uniform and was taken in Hamburg in 1946.

Mrs McPetrie was born in Carluke and met her late husband who was also in the armed services in Germany and when they were both demobbed they went to Aberdeen to marry and then settled in Motherwell. Mr McPetrie was wounded in Burma and came to Erskine several times for respite with his wife and stayed in the Veterans Cottages before his death. When Mrs McPetrie became ill she moved to Yarrow House in Erskine where she spent more than two happy years. Erskine was left the residue of her Estate in appreciation of the special care and kindness shown to both her and her husband.

This legacy provided specialist hoists, baths and pressure relieving mattresses-particularly important for veterans who are paralysed or receiving end of life care. The relief and comfort theses items provide is beyond value, so imagine the difference Mrs McPetrie made to the quality of life for our veterans.
