Seafarers UK has boosted the care of Erskine veterans, dealing with the challenges of dementia, courtesy of a £35,000 grant.
The money, received over three years as part of a larger £100,000 grant, is helping our charity to provide its specialist care for Royal Navy, Royal Marine and Merchant Navy veterans at the 40-bed Erskine Park Home, Bishopton.
Dementia already affects around 70,000 people in Scotland, a figure which is predicted to rise considerably in the next 20 years. Erskine is committed to meeting this demand by providing its dedicated care for the increasing number of veterans being diagnosed with dementia.
With the help of the grant from Seafarers UK, our specifically trained dementia care staff can help these veterans to fight the symptoms of this illness. Through the provision of specialist care including Speech & Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and dedicated activities, we will use our resources and knowledge to manage the challenges associated with this illness.
Seafarers UK is a supporting partner of Erskine.
