SOS Fitness challenge to go the full circuit for Scottish military heroes

06-June-2012

A group of fitness fanatics will attempt to go the full circuit to raise vital funds for Erskine.

Supporter Elaine Crichton has teamed up with Faslane PT instructors of SOS Fitness in Helensburgh to organise the challenging event on Sunday 10th June.

Elaine, 33, was inspired to organise the fundraising challenge in of Erskine which has cared for her father, a former Royal Mechanical Engineer, for the past five years at The Erskine Home, Bishopton.

The Rhu resident wanted to give something back to the charity and came up with the plan of completing three, 40 minute circuits in three different locations – Hermitage Park, Loch Lomond and Erskine.

Around 60 people have already signed up for the fundraising event, but Elaine is looking for more fitness fanatics to join their attempt.

Elaine, who trains at SOS Fitness in Helensburgh, said: “Dad was in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers for 12 years. He got dementia when he was quite young and the only place we wanted him to be in was a military hospital. They have looked after him tremendously. It’s a great cause and we want to give something back.

“When I suggested it, the SOS Fitness instructors were really excited and jumped on board straight away. There are around 60 of us doing the fund-raiser so far and we are trying to get as many people as possible to get involved.

The event kicks off in Hermitage Park at 9am on Sunday 10th June. Supporters are invited to come along and join in or support their efforts by donating from the sidelines.

Bus company Wilsons of Rhu have donated the bus and Helensburgh’s Buffet Shop is providing lunch for the fundraisers.

Alan Moss, Erskine Fundraiser, said “We’d like to encourage anyone interested in taking part to come along and enjoy this outstanding challenge. This is a great chance to get fit and take advice from expert Navy fitness Instructors. Your donations are vital to help us rebuild shattered lives and provide first class care for Scottish veterans.”
