Peter Wilson was born 4th October 1927 in Glasgow. He served as a Corporal in the RAF for 2 years and 6 months.
He says, “I had tried to sign up for the RAF when I was 17 but my father refused to sign the papers, as soon as I was 18 I was off”.
After twelve weeks at Greenham Common, Newbury, Egypt was the next stop for Corporal Peter Wilson, where he was charged with keeping the Order room on track, which entailed processing orders from Field Transport, responsible for the delivering of fuel all over Egypt. The job was fraught with danger.
On his return from Egypt Peter worked at a variety of jobs starting off in John Brown Shipyards and then in Roll Royce.
It was whilst on a Mediterranean cruise that Peter suffered a stroke and things went downhill. He struggled to look after himself and then Erskine came to the rescue. Having visited Erskine for 5 weeks respite Peter decided that he would come and live in the Bishopton Home permanently.
It was, he said the best decision he could have made. When he first arrived he was perilously underweight and could only manage to get about with a Zimmer. With the special brand of Erskine care he soon put on weight and graduated from a Zimmer to a stick, now a days he needs neither! The food he says is “Fantastic”.
Everyday Peter, who is an avid reader, can be found in the Recreation Hall in his comfy chair reading, that is when is not participating in the many outings and visits that are available.
