Special Interest Groups

Nutrition

The nutritional group led by our speech and language therapist includes chefs and residents as well as a member of nursing staff from each area. This group reviews the menus and ensures that special needs are catered for in a way that suits our residents. A chef is linked to each area and will speak to individual residents about their likes/dislikes if this is required. We aim to ensure that our residents enjoy a varied and nutritionally sound menu and that meal times are something to look forward to.

Fire Safety

The fire co-ordinators group reviews the fire policies and ensures that staff receive the appropriate fire training. Fire drills are conducted on a regular basis to ensure that all staff have had the opportunity to practice the drill, so that they will be fully prepared in the event of a real fire.

Infection Control

Infection control is always very high on our agenda. Representatives from all areas are on this group, nursing, catering, portering, laundry and house keeping. This group has reviewed our policies and ensures that best practice is being implemented. They audit infection control standards and take corrective action if necessary. Training on infection control and food hygiene is a priority in all our homes to minimise risk to our residents.

Quality Audits

To ensure that we continue to provide the best care possible the audit group conducts a programme of audit based around the care standards and best clinical practice. When an audit has been completed an action plan will be developed to address any identified weaknesses. We have conducted audits on record keeping, continence management, falls management, administration of medications and quality of life. Through the audit cycle we will continue to improve on everything that we do.

Carers Support Group

The speech and language therapists hold a regular Carers support group. This gives carers the opportunity to talk about their feelings and experiences about how difficult it is when a loved one becomes a resident. Carers can support one another through the group and various members of the care team attend to talk about various aspects of care and allay any anxieties that they may have. Carers’ are important to us and we want them to be fully involved in care because without this our residents’ quality of life will be diminished.
