A Century of Care

Marking 100 years of caring for veterans

The devastation of the First World War highlighted the fact that there were insufficient hospital facilities to care for those who were wounded in battle.

Thanks to the generosity of the people of Scotland, the first Erskine Hospital, then The Princess Louise Scottish Hospital for Limbless Sailors and Soldiers, was opened in October 1916.

100 years after its inception, and having cared for over 85,000 veterans, Erskine is now known as Scotland’s foremost provider of care for veterans and their spouses.

Erskine’s residents, staff and volunteers look forward to the year ahead as they join together to celebrate Erskine’s Centenary and the century of care it has provided.
