This morning, veterans in The Erskine Home, received a visit from Shona Robison MSP, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport.
Ms Robison met with residents and staff in Red Cross House within the home in Bishopton, before making an announcement on the student nurse numbers for 2018/2019.
Speaking about the visit, Director of Care at Veterans’ Charity Erskine, Derek Barron said: “We are delighted to welcome the Cabinet Secretary and Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland to The Erskine Home today to meet with residents and care staff. The primary reason for the visit was to hear about some of the innovative nursing roles and approaches we have adopted at Erskine, including employing an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Dementia Nurse Consultant.
‘We are particularly pleased that the Cabinet Secretary took this opportunity to announce student nurse numbers for 2018/19 while she was here. At Erskine we welcome student nurses in our four care homes during their training. Around 30 students per year are supported and mentored by our 80 registered nurses.”
Erskine care for veterans and their spouses within four care homes in Scotland – two in Bishopton, one in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh. The charity also has 44 cottages on the Erskine Estate in Bishopton for veterans and their families and has just announced plans to build 24 single living apartments on their estate for veterans of working age.
