The Director of Care for the Veterans’ charity Erskine has been included in the list of 100 Outstanding Nurses for 2018 by the social media nursing community WeNurses.
Nominated by his peers, Derek Barron, who has led the care team in Erskine since 2016, is amongst the group of 100 nurses celebrated for having made a difference in four areas: to patient care at a population level, to the understanding of best nursing practice for achieving improvement, to public understanding of nursing and having positively promoted nursing.
The WeNurses community group invited its Twitter followers to shine a light on some of the unsung heroes of nursing. All the nominations were then reviewed and independently scored from one to four on the extent to which the criteria were met through the nomination, with the list ultimately whittled down to the final 100 names.
This most recent accolade is yet another for Derek, who in 2017 was awarded one of the first Fellowships of the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) for 50 years.
On receiving his award Derek said: “I am delighted to have been included in this list, firstly because it is my peers who have nominated and recognised my contributions but also because of the other outstanding nurses who are included in the list – I’d like to thank those who nominated me and the nurses who judged this list and included me in it”.
