Erskine marks loyalty and dedication

Erskine marks loyalty and dedication of staff and volunteers at annual Long Service Awards.

Scotland’s largest Veterans charity has come together to celebrate a combined 865 years’ of commitment and endeavour at the Erskine Long Service Awards in Mar Hall, Bishopton.

Erskine recognised members of staff and volunteers from throughout its network of four homes in Renfrewshire, Glasgow and Edinburgh, to mark the high standards of care provided to the nation’s Veterans for which the charity is renowned for.

Hosted by Wing Commander Ian Cumming MBE, Erskine Chief Executive, the long service awards ranged from 10 years to 30 years, from all departments including Care, Hotel Services and Support Services. Erskine chairman Stuart Aitkenhead was also on hand to present the awards.

Rosemary Crawford, a care assistant at The Erskine Home in Bishopton, was recognised for her 30-years of service to the charity, one of the longest among the award recipients.

Rosemary, who started working at Erskine in 1991, hailed the past three decades as she urged others with an interest in a career in care to take up an opportunity with the Veterans charity.

Rosemary said: “I am honoured to have received this Long Service Award. Working for Erskine has been fulfilling and rewarding from the day I first walked in the door, and providing the best possible care for our Veterans when they require it most is something that not only I, but we all pride ourselves on.

“Erskine is a fantastic place to work and I wouldn’t change the past 30 years. Everybody knows that a career in care can be demanding, but the reward of working in what is a unique environment surrounded by fascinating residents and a superb care team makes it truly worthwhile. I would recommend a career with Erskine to anybody who has the compassion to care for others.”

Erskine was founded in 1916, with the aim of caring for servicemen and women who had been injured in active service. The charity honours that mission every day by providing crucial post-military support to 1,000 Veterans and their spouses.

As Scotland’s foremost provider of care for Veterans and their spouses, Erskine continues to provide nursing, residential, and dementia care in its network of four homes.

Erskine also assists younger Veterans who need help to begin the next chapter of their lives, offering social, recreation and training facilities at its Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre.

Wing Commander Ian Cumming MBE said: “Erskine is Proud to Care and couldn’t provide the high standards of care that we do without the dedication and commitment of our fantastic staff and volunteers. The Erskine Long Service Awards are a mark of appreciation for the tireless efforts of all of our amazing staff, as well as the loyalty and dedication shown by those who have worked for us for decades. We thank each and every recipient for their work throughout the years and hope they provide a shining example as to the rewards working for Erskine can bring.”
