Fordyce Primary School

The pupils of Fordyce Primary School in Aberdeenshire were given a talk by their local Fundraiser, Michael Parkes and they were inspired to hold an event during Erskine Veterans’ Wishes Week. Michael visited the school later in the year to see them wear Erskine’s proud colours and draw pictures in class.

The P6s and P7s also took part in a sports day wearing purple. Thanks to all the pupils and staff for helping to raise £114.50 to care for our veterans.

Clydebank High School got in touch with Erskine in 2012 with the view to start fundraising and raise awareness for the veterans in our care.  Working closely with the Fundraising Team who have been out to visit and give talks to the students, which helps explain the need for the work Erskine does and why their fundraising is so important.  They have been incredibly inspired by the stories of our veterans.

Fundraising activities they have taken part in include:

  • Holding a charity night to raise funds
  • Creating a Memorial Book containing WW1 veterans from their local area.  STV Glasgow featured the students on the Riverside show to highlight their work with the book
  •  Selling merchandise on a regular basis to students in the morning before school starts
  • Holding bake sales
  • Visiting the battlefields of Belgium and France to pay their respects and laying wreaths for the service men that fought in battles during WW1
  • Visiting our annual Remembrance Service to lay a wreath in honour of our veterans

Clydebank High Stand

Their efforts have not only been recognised by Erskine but West Dunbartonshire Council have acknowledged their hard work and support.  In 2015 they won 2nd prize for the secondary school Amazing Things Award.  A massive well done and thank you to Clydebank High!
