Douglas joined the Board of Trustees in 2017. He has worked within NHS Scotland for almost 20 years, most recently as Director of Finance for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Before entering the NHS, Douglas worked for nine years within the Defence Industry for Pilkington Optronics (formerly Barr and Stroud Ltd.). He trained as a Chartered Accountant and qualified in 1982, working for Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co (now KPMG) in Glasgow.

He is the Chairman of Shared Hope, a Scottish Charity which seeks to meet the needs of people in extreme poverty, working through small projects in different parts of the world.
