Roderick Neilson

Trustee

Roddy Neilson VR, JP, OStJ, FRCP, FRCPath, is a retired Consultant Haematologist and former Registrar of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

He served as a reservist in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) with operational deployments to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was Commanding Officer of 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital from 2011 to 2014 and subsequently served as Military–Medical Liaison Officer to the Scottish Government. He retired from the military in 2023 after 27 years’ service, holding the rank of full Colonel having also served as an Honorary Physician (QHP) to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for three years.

Through his role with the Scottish Government, Roddy was involved in the provision of care for veterans and brings this experience to his role as a Trustee of Erskine. He has a personal connection to the charity, having had a close relative cared for by Erskine in his final years.

Roddy is also a Trustee of St John Scotland and serves as a Justice of the Peace in North Strathclyde.
