Erskine Veterans Charity marks Volunteers’ Week 2024.

Volunteers’ Week 2024 – 40th Anniversary

2024 marks the 40th year of Volunteers’ Week, when Erskine Veterans Charity will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

As well as a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills, Volunteers’ Week also acts as a chance to inspire others to give volunteering a go.

This Volunteers’ Week Erskine Veterans Charity will be celebrating their many volunteers, by hosting their annual Summer Gathering at The Erskine Home in Bishopton.

Diane McAllister, the Volunteer Development Manager, stated, "Volunteers' Week provides an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding contributions our volunteers make. Our amazing volunteer community has provided companionship to veterans, enabling them to compete in the Senior Sporting Games, enjoy outings, lunch clubs, befriending, attend tea parties, speech and language groups, receive physiotherapy support, learn archery, and so much more. Most importantly, they have fostered fun and intergenerational connection with others.”

Erskine Volunteer Elizabeth Stewart (74) said: “When Erskine became my parents’ new home and cared for them so well I was filled the desire to give something back so I started volunteering. The sense of fulfilment and satisfaction I got from knowing I had made a difference by offering my time was immense. I love my time spent at Erskine and would encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to give it a go.”

Chief Executive Ian Cumming, MBE said: "We are very grateful for the amazing work of our volunteers. Their dedication and commitment to supporting Veterans is truly inspiring, and we are proud to have them as part of our team. We hope that Volunteers Week 2024 will encourage more people to become involved and make a real difference in the lives of Veterans and their families."
