EVAC North brings Oktoberfest spirit to Forres

EVAC North brings Oktoberfest spirit to Forres

Erskine Veterans Activity Centre North (EVAC North) brought a burst of Bavarian cheer to Forres by hosting a lively Oktoberfest that welcomed over 50 veteran members for an afternoon of music, food, and friendship.

Local ensemble Stein Brass filled the hall with traditional German oompah favourites, creating an upbeat atmosphere that had members clapping, singing along, and sharing stories. Guests were served German sausages alongside non-alcoholic beer, ensuring an inclusive event where everyone could take part in the celebration.

Shaun Moat, Chair of the Members’ Committee at EVAC North, said:
“Community is at the heart of everything we do. Oktoberfest gave our veterans a joyful, welcoming space to connect—brilliant music from Stein Brass, great food, and plenty of laughs. The smiles said it all. Events like this reduce isolation and remind us that we’re stronger together.”

Fiona Imlach EVAC Activities Centre Supervisor added:  “These gatherings are so much more than an event—they lift spirits, spark friendships, and fill the room with smiles. It’s wonderful to see our members enjoying each other’s company.”

A celebration with purpose

The Oktoberfest is part of EVAC North’s ongoing wellbeing programme, designed to combat loneliness, build confidence, and encourage active participation in community life. Music-led socials provide a relaxed setting for veterans to reconnect, while the alcohol-free offer supports safe, inclusive participation for all.

EVAC North thanked Stein Brass, volunteers, and staff whose time and generosity helped make the event possible. Their contributions ensured a smooth, welcoming experience from first note to final cheer.
