A kind and generous group of US citizens started American Friends of Erskine in 2003. The group is proud of Scotland’s military heritage and keen to show their support for Veterans in Scotland. American Friends of Erskine Hospital Inc is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization.

Supporting Veterans in Scotland

American Friends of Erskine have supported two very exciting projects.

In 2015 a grant of $4,700 funded the Sporting Senior Games.

This one day sporting event saw 68 elderly Veterans compete in a range of adapted sports such as basketball, bowls and cycling. The event was so popular that Erskine now runs it annually.  This would not have been possible without the initial support from American Friends of Erskine.

In 2016 and 2018 American Friends of Erskine fundraising achievements funded two 16-seat buses.

The buses have lots of adaptations to make them suitable for our Veterans. Brightly colored hand rails make it easier for ageing eyes to see, vinyl seating helps improve hygiene and a wider step improves safety when entering or exiting the bus.  Bespoke tail lifts ensure every Veteran living at Erskine is able to access transport.

A meaningful activities programme is vital for our Veterans, this would not be possible without appropriate transport. The buses funded by American Friends of Erskine have been invaluable.

How donations help

American Friends of Erskine are currently focussing their fundraising efforts in helping to provide accommodation and rehabilitation for Veterans.

The transition from the military to civilian life is a critical time for Veterans. Having a safe haven, a place to recover and rebuild their life is extremely important.

Bequests and planned giving

Bequests included in donors' Wills make up a large amount of donations to Erskine. By making such a special gift to American Friends of Erskine you can help care for Scotland’s Veterans for years to come. You can also reduce the estate and other taxes which might become due after your death.

Your choice of how to benefit the American Friends of Erskine, and the estate and income tax implications of that gift, will depend upon your personal circumstances. You should discuss this with your attorney or estate-planning advisor.
