The American Friends of Erskine Hospital Inc was established in 2003 as a United States not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization. It is run by a group of US citizen volunteers who are proud of Scotland’s military heritage and keen to show their support for Scottish Veterans.
Each year Erskine needs to raise over $13 million to care for the brave men and women who depend on our services. The Board of the American Friends has unanimously agreed to help fund the costs of providing support to Erskine’s Veterans.
Supporting Veterans in Scotland
The American Friends of Erskine have supported two very exciting projects at Erskine. In 2015 a grant of $4,700 funded the inaugural Sporting Senior Games. This one day sporting event saw 68 elderly veterans compete in a range of adapted sports such as basketball, bowls and cycling. Increased physical activity is vital for our older veterans, helping to maintain fitness, mobility and stability. The event was so popular that Erskine now run it annually. This would not have been possible without the initial support from The American Friends of Erskine.
In 2016 and again in 2018 the American Friends of Erskine fundraising achievements allowed Erskine to purchase two 16-seat multi-purpose buses based in Bishopton and Edinburgh. These buses have lots of adaptations to make them suitable for Erskine veterans, including; brightly colored hand rails which are easier for ageing eyes to see; vinyl seating to improve hygiene; a wider step to improve safety when entering or exiting the bus. The biggest adaptions are the bespoke tail lifts, which have been specifically designed suit our needs. These changes ensure that every single veteran living at Erskine is able to access transport. The delivery of a meaningful activities programme is of the utmost important to Erskine veterans, and this simply would not be possible without appropriate vehicles. The provision of buses by the American Friends of Erskine has been invaluable.
What your donations can buy
The American Friends of Erskine are currently focussing their fundraising efforts towards accommodation and rehabilitation for veterans. A safe haven, a place to recover, rehabilitate and rebuild their life. As our Service personnel display the highest levels of bravery and courage throughout the world, it is only right that we, as a military charity, are able to provide quality accommodation and rehabilitation should they need us in the future.

Bequests and planned giving
Bequests have always been very important to Erskine. By making such a special gift to the American Friends you can help us care for Scotland’s Veterans for years to come. You can also reduce the estate and other taxes which might become due after your death.
Your choice of how to benefit the American Friends of Erskine Hospital, and the estate and income tax implications of that gift, will depend upon your personal circumstances. You should discuss this with your attorney or estate-planning advisor.
If you’re interested in organizing your own fundraising event in support of the American Friends of Erskine Hospital, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be happy to provide information and support.
