Walking the Kiltwalk for the charity Erskine is a unique way to raise funds for the 1,000 Veterans the charity supports every year. The generosity of supporters allows for the care of Scotland’s Veterans in four care homes in Bishopton, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Between April and August there are four Kiltwalk events across Scotland to choose from. You can Stride, Stroll or Wander in Glasgow, Edinburgh Aberdeen or Dundee and anyone can take part men, women, children, old and young, fit… and less fit! There is something for everyone.
Thanks to Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation each Kiltwalker walking for Erskine will receive an extra 40% donation. People like Veteran Andy who on leaving the Navy found it very difficult to settle. After years of enduring many personal difficulties including the prospect of homelessness Andy was diagnosed with chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A move to Glasgow proved to be a good one for Andy when he found the Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre and a cottage in the Erskine Veterans’ Village. Attending the Centre Andy benefitted by being with likeminded people with an understanding of the Forces way of life.
It is thanks to our supporters who take part in events such as the Kiltwalk Andy can now say: “My life’s been turned around – I now have a job with Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company on the Erskine Estate and a place to live”.
In addition to the 44 Veterans cottages and five assisted living apartments building work is currently ongoing for 24 single living apartments – creating a Veterans Village supporting Veterans of all ages.
